April 15-18, 2004 Memorial Bike Ride for Liddy We had intended to ride in the 4-day 200-mile 2004 Cycle Zydeco bike tour just like we did last year. Cycle Zydeco is an annual Cajun/Creole Food Cycling Festival where you can enjoy the food, music, and people that have made this part of South Louisiana internationally famous. It is steeped in the culture and heritage of French-speaking Cajuns and the Creoles. You can ride at a leisurely to moderate pace so you can take in the countryside. In the evening the cyclists relax, enjoy great food, and dance to Cajun and Zydeco music. Last year we raised over $14,000 for sarcoma research with our bike ride in Cycle Zydeco.
Unfortunately, we could not make the arrangements to bike in the 2004 Cycle Zydeco, which will be taking place during April 15-18th. However, a number of riders in Cycle Zydeco 2004 will be biking as a memorial to Liddy and wearing special armbands, helping to spread the awareness of sarcoma. Over 270 cyclists will join in this memorial ride and bike on one or more days during April 15th-18th. They will bike in Hong Kong, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Sweden, Ukraine, and the US (in California, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, and Texas)! We are estimating that they will bike over 12,000 miles to raise public awareness of sarcoma throughout the world and to raise funds for cancer research.
Fall 2004 Silent Auction We're planning a silent auction in the fall of this year. More details on this will be provided as the plans become more definite. 2003 Shriver Family Bike Tour for Sarcoma Research
During early July 2003, 28 members of Team Sarcoma took to the bike paths and back roads of Denmark. They were joined by 260 Virtual Bike Tour riders from around the world. Read about this amazing event, which raised over $75,000 for the Sarcoma Foundation of America, by clicking on the above link.
This was the very first initiative Team Sarcoma undertook. In April 2003, eight of us took to the back roads of south central Louisiana. We raised over $14,000 for sarcoma research at Columbia University. Read about this inaugural event by clicking on the above link. V1N2 ESUN Copyright © 2004 Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative.
