A  Rhabdomyosarcoma Emphasis

Dear Readers,

Here are some of the highlights of the August issue of ESUN, which I hope you find interesting, informative, and useful:

Dr. Leonard H. Wexler has written our second "bridge article". He discuss Rhabdomyosarcoma in some depth and gives an extensive set of references to articles dealing with this disease. I am grateful to Dr. Wexler, an extremely busy pediatric oncologist and researcher, for finding the time to undertake this project and then work with me to achieve the results that you see in this issue.  For those readers not familiar with our series of "bridge articles", please click here.

The Clinical Trial News column complements Dr. Wexler's article in that it is devoted to clinical trials dealing with rhabdomyosarcoma.

Dr. Murray Brennan, Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, discusses pessimistic and often imprecise information readily available on the Internet in his article Soft Tissue Sarcomas: One Physicians Viewpoint.

Our first full-length article by caregiver Hana Pester, Holding Fast: The Caregiver’s Role in the Diagnostic Process, begins the official launch of our new "A Caregiver's Notes" column, which we previewed in our last issue of ESUN.

Dr. Karen Albritton and Pharmacist Scott Silverstein discuss "Efficient and Safe Dosing" in this issue's Drug News Column.

We have posted an addendum to Dr. Randall's article, "Ewing's Sarcoma Family of Tumors (ESFT)", which appeared in the June issue of ESUN.  If you have forwarded Dr. Randall's article to someone else, could you please make them aware of this addition.  The online version of his article now reflects the additional sidebar.

Please don’t forget to check out the Our Initiatives column and let us know what you think about the ESUN newsletter and our other initiatives.  I must thank Beverly Shriver and Donna Lee Owens for their help with copy editing this issue of ESUN.

Best regards,

Bruce Shriver

Editor-in-Chief, ESUN
