Team Sarcoma 2006 Danish Bike Tour: July 1-7, 2006 We are in the process of scheduling meetings in early September with several Danish sarcoma patients that we have been communicating with over the past year, Fyntour (a state-run Danish tour agency that specializes in bike tours), the Danish Cancer Society and other Danish cancer organizations, and some of the Danish press and media to finalize the arrangements for the Team Sarcoma 2006 Danish Bike Tour. We hope to have detailed brochures describing the bike tour out by mid-September, but this much we can tell you now. It will be held July 1-7, 2006. We’ll bike from the Danish peninsula of Jutland to Copenhagen and spend some time cycling on the Danish islands of Fyn, Tåsinge, Langeland, and Møn. There will be two routes, one route for experienced cyclists who would like to bike longer distances and bike some hills each day and one route for cyclists who would like a more leisurely pace, i.e., less distance and fewer hills. The price, once it is determined, will include accommodations for each evening, July 1-7, all meals but the lunch on the last day, and admission to stops that we will make along the way which include visiting Legoland, Valdemar’s Castle, and Tivoli and sailing on an old historic wooden sailing ship. Rental bikes will be available for those who do not bring their own to Denmark and you’ll have to pay your way to/from Denmark via train, car, airplane, or boat. We will need a total of 100 cyclists to sign up for the tour in order for the event happen. We’ll also need 25 volunteers each day to help out. We hope that this will be a truly international event. The Team Sarcoma bike tours are undertaken to raise public awareness of sarcoma and of the lack of young adults in clinical trials and to raise money for sarcoma-based cancer research. We’d love to have you join us. If you are interested in signing up for the ride, becoming a volunteer, or learning more about this bike tour, send us a note.
