Basic Information on Irinotecan

  • Irinotecan is also called Irinotecan hydrochloride trihydrate, CPT-11 and Camptosar

  • In the same family as topotecan and exatecan

Basic Information on Temozolomide   

  • Temozolomode is also called TMZ, SCHS2.365, NSC 362856, Temodol and Temodar

  • Given orally

  • FDA label; approved for refractory brain tumors

  • 2003 phase 2 trial at Columbia using temozolomide and thalidomide for leiomyosarcoma

Previous Results: Ewing's Sarcoma    

  • 2003 abstract for a Phase 2 of temozolomide in Italy; 2/4 partial responses for extraosseous Ewings, 1/4 partial response for Ewing's in a bone

  • 2003 abstract for a Phase 1 trial at Utah (Huntsman) and Memphis, TN (St. Jude); 2 partial responses for Ewing's; the unpublished results are much better (5/8 responses in recurrent Ewing's)

Previous Results: Other Cancers  

  • 2003 abstract for a Phase 1 trial for recurrent malignant glioma; discusses dosage and side effects

  • 2000 abstract and 2000 abstract mouse studies

  • 1999 abstract stating that temozolomide is not active in advanced soft tissue sarcomas (Phase 2 trial)
